  • Improve your mood and lessen feelings of depression?

Awareness of Disordered Eating

“The way you eat is inseparable from your core beliefs about being alive” ~ Geneen Roth

What we eat, how we eat, – essentially our relationship with Food, is a mirror of our relationship with ourselves. When looking at our patterns with Food – whether we are unboundaried with ourselves, which reflects a deep sense of having to take all that is available at any given time in case the food (nourishment) just might not be available to us later. Or if we restrict ourselves to the point that we never enjoy the experience of pleasure and joy because we deep down, we don’t feel we deserve freedom and joy. No matter how evolved, sophisticated, wealthy or enlightened you are – how you eat mirrors all.

Our 2 part discussion on disordered eating covers the following items: Optimal Nutrition: Intuitive Eating for self-care.

Learn tools to:

  • identify and distinguish between physical and emotional hunger
  • add nourishment (physical and emotional) rather than introducing restrictions or punishment to daily nutrition
  • learn to listen to what your body needs and begin seeing eating as enjoyable
  • choose more nutrient dense foods to address physical deficiencies

Join us for an informative eating highlighting the awareness of disordered eating.

  • If you have experienced feelings of shame and self hatred as a result of a number on the scale – this talk is for you. If you have experienced euphoria at the discovery that you’ve dropped a few pounds – that you are “a good girl” – then this talk is for you.
  • If you would like to let go of the endless struggle to loose the same 20 pounds, for the 20th time – this talk is for you.
  • If you are tired of the endless war to “be” something other that what you are – this talk is for you.

Come and explore how your feelings about love, fear, anger, meaning and transformation, and yes, even deep spirit

Discussion Lead by: Lisa Tomlinson and Melissa Furneaux

Lisa Tomlinson, MA, Psychotherapist, Counseling services Lisa specializes in providing client centered counseling for anxiety and depression, anger management, addiction and substance abuse. She has specific training and experience in addressing trauma and anxiety-related disorders.

Melissa Furneaux, RHN, B Sc. – Melissa graduated from UBC with a degree in Biopsychology and Nutritional Science, reflecting her fascination with the interchanging relationships between food, mood, and behaviour. Struggling with weight and body image issues for many years, she began to realize that counting calories, restricting fats, and taking diet pills were not the answer. She came to understand that food is so much more than fuel; physically and energetically, we literally are what we eat.
