Herbs for Digestion

This informative talk will cover how certain herbal medicines can assist digestive health through various actions. Explore the benefits of some common spices and carminative rich herbs, and understand the effects of bitter and demulcent herbs. Cosmetic-Making for Mothers’ Day with Katolen Yardley, Medical Herbalist

Create natural body care products for yourself or as a Mother’s Day Gift. This fun workshop is appropriate for ages 12 and up. Participants will each prepare a lip balm, bath balm fizzer, and a honey coconut oil body scrub to take home. Medicinal Plant Walks at Van Dusen Botanical Gardens

Meander through VanDusen Garden with Medical Herbalist, Katolen Yardley, MNIMH, RH (AHG) to identify flowers, herbs, shrubs, trees, and weeds while discussing their medicinal properties. Notice seasonal plants and learn folklore and common applications for these plants traditionally used for medicines. Meet at the Visitors Centre and enter the Garden as a group. Bring a notebook, pen, and camera (optional). Wear good walking shoes, bring water and dress for the weather, as the entire class is spent outdoors.

Herbal Medicine Throughout History – Evening Talk

Join Medical Herbalist, Katolen Yardley, MNIMH, RH (AHG) on a journey through time looking at some unique approaches to herbal medicine including key herbalists worldwide and periods within herbal medicine history. Trace the use of herbal medicines throughout history and different cultures during this evening of storytelling and folklore. Katolen will discuss influental herbalists such as Hildegard, Galen and Hippocrates, and will focus on some important plants and their uses from traditional, to current scientific studies. Leave with a greater understanding of how plants play an important role in our society and health.
